Birch belongs to the plant family Betulaceae. The genus Alnus (Alder) also belongs to the same family. In their indigenous habitats, both birch and alders are used for their wood, and is some situations for their bark and leaves; as a source of oil (including wintergreen), dyes and even as a food. They are also important as ornamental plants. In this course you will learn to develop knowledge in classification, identification and culture of plants from the genus Betula.
